Composite - WGCL G-98 Cleveland | 1979 (5:42) Scoped
It’s only 5 minutes long but features two cool jocks… Tom Kent and Dave Collins. Unfortunately TK is only featured on the first break. Another from the archives rebuild.

Ah, the great G98! This was the station every Cleveland teenager listened to when I was in junior high and high school, when they werent listening to WMMS.
Oh yeahhh!!! I remember waking up to Phil Gardner, Superstarrrr..G98!! (”Wake up, wake up, you little sleepyhead, get your buns out of bed….”) I still have the 45rpm of Space Invaders by Uncle Vic. Once I got a hold of an FM converter for my car, I was able to listen to that station all day and night. Too bad there wasn’t a way to get a copy of the DJ’s radioplay back then. I would pay dearly for that. As long as it didn’t come over 15.99 (plus tax).
Best station around! I remember Phil Garner, Bob Travis, Tom Jeffrey & the G -Team in the Morning, Brandy “Buns”Kellogg, and the jingles by Beau Coup & Howard Belcher’s wedding on Uncle Vic…many a homework paper went undone because of taping! I also have the WGCL Boogie Biggies Double Album. Long live the Great 98!!!!
G-98, dave Collin’s live on forever! I was in my teens when this station was in it’s hey day, such a simpler time, and left with great memories. I miss ya GREAT-98! WGCL-Forever the greatest!
To bad mega corporations screwed up great radio. Who needed 200 TV stations? We had the radio on 24-7 back in the 60’s and 70’s Kids now days have no idea what they missed. Could it be done today? maybe with the right jocks and management and live and local I think so. There was a small station in western pa that had great success a couple of years ago, they brought back some old veterns from the 70,s that schooled the younger guys on the drake format and it sounded so good.To bad they got bought out. The station was WEXC FM
Dancin Danny Wright and Uncle Vic Blechman (sp?) ah the 80s. G98. kick ass.
I remember when Al Roker did news/wx on 98 & one night Uncle Vic locked himself out before he got off at midnight & you heard the record scratching overnight on the platter ’til Al got there at like 4:30am. That was in WGCL’s hey day.
Ahhhh, G-98. It was a very sad day when that station just disappeared. Does anyone remember “The Bagman?”
Oh my, the Bagman. He hung up every phone call with this gravely “Beyyyy”
Hey! I am the daughter the the famous disc jockey, Skip O’Brien. He was a disc jockey there during the 70’s. His real name is Donald James Miller, but everybody knows him as Skip O’Brien.
